Quebec City is the capital of the Canadian province of Quebec. It is located on the north shore of the Saint Lawrence River, at the point where the river narrows and becomes known as the St. Lawrence Estuary. The city is known for its rich French heritage and its well-preserved historic district, which is the only walled city in North America north of Mexico. The historic district was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985. Some of the city's most popular tourist attractions include the Château Frontenac Hotel, the Citadelle of Quebec, the Notre-Dame-de-Québec Basilica Cathedral, and the Place Royale. The city is also home to a number of museums, including the Musée de la Civilisation, the Musée de l'Amérique Francophone, and the Musée de la Nature et des Sciences. Quebec City is a popular destination for both summer and winter vacations. In the summer, visitors can enjoy the city's many outdoor activities, such as hiking, biking, and kayaking. In the winter, the city transforms into a winter wonderland, with its streets and parks covered in snow. Quebec City is also home to the world-famous Carnaval de Québec, a winter festival that takes place every year in February.
